em. I guess I just want to see who it is that is getting my order ready, who will be answering my emails, who I might be talking to on the phone, and basically what does this person do each day - what is their life like?Well, I am 36 years old. Ouch, isn't that how old my mom used to be? Oh, well - I still look younger and if I don't then just tell me I do because it makes me feel better. I definitely feel younger then 36 so that is what counts. I am married to an old man. He is 36 too but he definitely looks old to me. :) We have been married for almost 15 years and counting and I wouldn't trade my old man in for anything. We have 2 children. One of each and the reason I work as hard as I do. Not only do I want to provide a good life for them but I want them to see what hard work can get you and for them to understand that it takes work to get the things you want to do.
My History: Well, I grew up in southern Illinois in a tiny town called Nashville. Even though I have lived in WV for longer then I had in IL, I still feel like that is where I am "from." I also do not sound like I come from WV so that is what I base my answer on when people asking "where are you from?" My dad worked for the coal mines as an engineer so my family ended up relocating to WV.
I got my BS in speech
pathology and audiology and my MS in speech pathology from West Virginia Universit
y. I worked for just over 10 years for the school system. In 2003 I started making cloth diaper out of my home and a few later I quit my "real" job to be a "diaper lady."Ok, so up to this point I bet you are wondering "doesn't this chic sell cake decorating items?" Well, yes - I am getting to this.
I had a friend that was looking for a source for diamond shaped hard candy and I am a wiz and finding things on the internet. Give me a few details and if it is out there, I can find it. Well, when she asked for that I thought to my self "well OF COURSE som
eone is making that out there - right? Well, turns out no. No one was making a real three dimensional diamond shaped candy for cake decorating, BUT loads of people were also looking for the same product. I saw a need that needed filled and set out to make my own. Well, I quickly found out why no one was. That is freaking hard to do! And, no company in the USA that I contacted wanted to work with me no matter how much money I offered them. After much trial and error with several companies I found a great one to work with and together we had a machine hand crafted to create exactly what I was wanting. So, that is how a speech pathologist, turned cloth diaper lady, turned cake decoration came about. Apparently I don't like to specialize. And that is actually true. I like to try it all. I like to do it all. I like to see what is new and become good at it just so I can say that I did. And if you are wondering at this point - I am not so good at cake decorating yet, but I am working on it.
Going to shows for cake decorating or baking is fascinating to me. This is why I decided to start a blog. I have never been a blogger, I don't like to brag about me or my products. (I know, what kind of business woman am I?) I jut don't like it. Ask me a question and I will tell you all you want to know but I am kind of reserved and wait for others to ask me vs me approaching them.
So, after each show I go to I see these cool things that I just want to tell people about. And, not only cool things but some really, really cool people too. So, really, this blog is going to be more about the people and things that I learn on my travels across the country promoting Cake Crystals.
I am learning along the way too so come read and get excited with me and I learn my way though this fascinating profession and hobby. Maybe some day I could make a cake beautiful enough to wow my kids!

No I do not do this all by myself. I have a great team of employees and friends that I could not do all this without their help physically and psychologically.
